Service Obligation Requirement

Project I2 scholars have a service obligation, as mandated by U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities for a period of two years for every year for which assistance was received. Scholars will sign a declaration of agreement and an exit certification based on requirements of section 673(h)(1) of the Act (20 U. S. C. 673(h)(1).

Project recruitment and orientation meetings will include a thorough explanation of the payback agreement. A signed agreement will be required in advance, and scholars will communicate with the project each year to update addresses. Grant recipients who do not satisfy their service obligation must repay all or part of the cost of their assistance.
